Sažetak
In 2017, the Translator and Interpreter Interest Group (TIIG) of the Croatian Chamber of Economy established a successful cooperation with the terminologists from the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics, who are managing the Croatian Terminology Portal, the most important and the largest national terminological database. The cooperation resulted in a creation of a database of 29 translators' glossaries, including13, 250 Croatian terms and 17, 217 equivalents in different foreign languages. Encouraged by this successful project, another group of TIIG enthusiasts decided to translate into Croatian the ISO standard 17100:2015 Translation services – Requirements for translation services. The main goal was to have control over the text and terminology of the standard that concerns translators and their profession, and the five-member translation group included well-experienced professional translators as well as a translatologist. Several members of the translation group already had experience with the translated standard for translation services as they had participated in the Technical Committee revising the translation of the now- expired EN 15038:2008 standard. In order to fulfill the procedure required by the Croatian Standards Institute for a standard to be translated into Croatian, the Croatian Chamber of Economy sent a request to the Institute, which granted it and welcomed the voluntary translation service offered by the Chamber's TIIG members. The project started with a machine-translated version of the standard, which then each of the members edited. They met around ten times over a total period of eight months to discuss and agree on each section of the text. Apart from the English original, they compared their solutions with the German translation of the standard, undertook extensive research and held long discussions in order to find appropriate solutions in Croatian. As some of the terminology at the time was inexistent (pre-editing, post-editing, domain competence) or inconsistent (revision/reviser- review/reviewer, source/target language) in Croatian, the translation group accomplished a pioneering terminological task, relying on their own experience of professional translators working in different and specific settings (LSP, government, academia). The final version of the translation was revised by a professional proofreader. The main result of the project is not only the Croatian translation of the ISO standard but also a glossary of translation service terms, which is going to be added to the above-mentioned database once the translation is approved and adopted by the Croatian Standards Institute. However, this is not the end of the TIIG's cooperation with the above mentioned institutions. The TIIG would like to assist the Croatian Standards Institute and the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics with their project on terminology from Croatian standards in the Croatian Terminology Portal. Starting in 2008, the project resulted in terminology from 23 standards being included in the Portal. Unfortunately, due to a lack of financial and human resources the project was suspended, and the TIIG is willing to step in and support the continuation of the project relying on its enthusiastic membership as the most important users of terminology databases.
