Sažetak
Croatian Glagolithic is a religious, cultural and political phenomena whose influence extended from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. Such breadth requires that the study of this phenomena be undertaken from an interdisciplinary point of view. This paper will focus on the Glagolithic center of Beram in Istria as an example of the application of an interdisciplinary approach, arguing that the study of Beram's importance to Glagolithism would be impossible absent an examination of, among other things, its history, the history of its art works, the use of philology and linguistics, and archeology, w which, when taken as a whole, reveal the complexity and richness and of the medieval Croatian world. The Croatian Glagolitic tradition was an ecclesiastical, cultural and political phenomenon with a long duration – from the Middle Ages to the very beginning of the 20th century. This is precisely why research into such a phenomenon requires an interdisciplinary approach. In this presentation, using the example of Beram in Istria, we shall demonstrate what the interdisciplinary approach in research into Croatian Glagolitic culture during the Middle Ages means. Particular emphasis shall be placed on the fact that studying the history of Beram is impossible without employing an inter-/multidisciplinary approach in the fields of history and art history, but also in the fields of philology and linguistics, as well as archaeology, historical geography and cartography, ethnography, etc. Only in that way can we today correctly illustrate the complexity of medieval culture and its diversity and richness.
