Sažetak
Process for preparing D-penicillamine (I) comprises heating benzylpenilloic acid (II) with phenylhydrazine in a non-aq. (non)-polar solvent, then washing the recovered crystals of (I) with absolute ethanol. Suitable solvents are ethanol, benzene, toluene or xylene and reaction is pref. at 70-140 degrees C with stirring. Expensive or toxic reagents required in the known processes are not used. Method is simple and quick with easy isolation of pure (I) which is not soluble in the solvents used.
