Sažetak
At the beginning of the new millennium, several anti-regime documentary films were released. The aim of the paper is to analyze three most important documentaries of that time shot shortly after the overthrow of Milošević: Srbija nulte godine (Serbia, Year Zero, Goran Marković, 2001), Anatomija boli I - II (The Anatomy of Pain, Janko Baljak, 2000 – 2001) and Ispit zrelosti (Maturity Exam, Predrag Delibašić, 2005). These films document the struggle of the individuals to cope with different personal war traumas and political violence, questioning at the same time the notion of national identity in the post-war Serbia. Although the documentaries depict different moments in the recent history: students’ anti- regime protests in Belgrade and the bombing of the NATO, they are not to be labeled as historical. They focus primarily on individual traumas and memories that serve as political commentary on the effects of violence done to the whole social fabric. Individual trauma thus becomes metaphor for collective trauma and the direct documentary style makes the film a tool for personal and collective psychoanalysis. By witnessing their pain in front of the camera, the subjects witness their experience of subjugation to the nationalist “regimes of truth”. Coming to terms with the post- war traumas means coming to terms with the recent traumatic history and defining one’s own identity in the post-war society.
