Sažetak
The poster will display an example of rural community development project in tourism. Project is being undertaken in mountainous region of Gorski kotar, near the Croatian-Slovenian border (north Croatia). Gorski kotar is mostly undeveloped, dominantly rural area with forestry and transport being mainstay of local population for ages. ICAM, an NGO from the nearby city of Rijeka, based on the idea of &#8220 ; heritage trail&#8221 ; and working in coordination with ECOVAST and similar Slovenian project started building partnership between local rural communities, using &#8220 ; bottom-up&#8221 ; approach. The purpose of the project is revitalization of the depopulated and economically lagging rural area while preserving natural and cultural heritage and eventually forming &#8220 ; rural tourist zone&#8221 ; on the both side of the border. The poster will display reasons for the project, main obstacles, partners involved, current situation and results expected in future, while highlighting geographic aspects of the region, rural tourism and sustainable rural development in Croatia in general.
