Sažetak
The founder of the Cinema Novo and arguably the most important Brazilian filmmaker of the 20th Century – Glauber Rocha made a significant impact on the emerging postcolonial theory in Latin American with his seminal films Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol, Terra em Transe and Antonio das Mortes. These film make a unique Sertão trilogy dealing with social and political turmoil of the decolonized Latin American. Adopting the Fanon’s theory of vengeful oppressed Rocha also used theatricality and theater devices to great extent to emphasize the importance of the struggle of the oppressed. Staging the mimetic representations of the colonial and imperial iconography is overwhelmingly present in Deus and Terra em Transe, whilst adopting the roleplaying dramaturgy is omnipresent in all three films. Usage of theater anthropology is noticeable as the directorial tool especially in Deus and Terra em Transe with a striking representation of the social drama structure rooted in both films. Finally, staging of the play within a play- or filming sequencing using the metatheater as a tool is very important aspect of the Glauber Rocha’s poetic vision- one seeking the liberation of the colonized and the oppressed through means traditionally reserved for forum theater, performance art and ethnography.
