Sažetak
Background: According to the WHO eHealth or digital healthcare is the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health. This is a controversial entity becoming more relevant every year in the life of the medical community. The interest toward e-health is becoming a priority for Stroke related scientific societies, charities, patients/families suffering strokes as in many other neurological conditions. Main examples of e-health include social media use, online scientific information sharing through patient networks, telemedicine, mobile phone apps, wearable devices and tele-rehab. Through social media stroke physicians face a new challenge of visibility that could lead to increased interest in the community. The concept of Infodemiology was introduced as an attempt to assess the pattern of informations on public health via the web. It represents a basic technique for health research applications through the Web. Google Trends for example provides publicly accessible information regarding search behaviors in a population, which may be studied and used for health campaign evaluation and disease monitoring. Methods: we extracted the relative monthly frequency of the search terms: stroke, ictus, schlaganfall and avc from January 2004 to present days using google trends tools. The extraction was done using the subgroup area of health in the all world as geographical area. The search term diabetes was adopted as reference together with other popular search terms (e.g: the football player Cristiano Ronaldo). Results: the most frequent search term adopted for the clinical syndrome was the English term stroke with a relative frequency of searches ranging between 54-100/month. The second most frequent term used was the French “avc” with a frequency range 3-16/month. Other languages observed had negligible figures. The higher interest on stroke was reported on July 2018. We observe an annual trend in poor interest on stroke in winter months. The interest on stroke was 25% compared to interest on diabetes, 10% compared to interest in various celebrities. Conclusion: the global trend of information demand upon stroke is slowly increasing in the last years, but still too far from other relevant medical conditions (diabetes). Despite its heavy social impact the interest on stroke is far from being comparable to that of other futile popular topics. Specific social media campaigns need to be developed to focus the interest of larger public on stroke. The use of social media influencers is probably the key point.
