Sažetak
This paper provides an overview of developments in CFD which have enabled it to be successfully used for the analysis of combustion in several important industrial areas, including automobile engines and power generation furnaces. The main advances described are in the solver methodology, particularly the use of flexible unstructured meshes in conjunction with automated mesh generation ; and in the exploitation of the new generation of message-passing parallel computers. It is shown by way of examples drawn from the aforementioned areas that these developments, when combined with contemporary models of the physics of turbulence and combustion, allow predictions to be made of useful accuracy and within a reasonable time frame. 32 refs., 8 figs., 1 tab.
