Sažetak
The rectangular waveguide filled with split-ring resonators is analyzed in this paper. The split-ring resonators are stacked into one row parallel to the waveguide walls, at the mutual distance much shorter than a wavelength. The waveguide can be thought of being filled with artificial anisotropic uniaxial material with negative effective permeability. It is shown that such a structure supports propagation of backward waves below the cut-off frequency of an empty waveguide. Thus, the waveguide behaves as &#8216 ; left-handed&#8217 ; transmission line. Theoretical analysis was verified by measurements of scattering coefficients of rectangular waveguide loaded with split-ring resonators in 10 GHz frequency band. As expected, the propagation band occurred below the cut-off frequency. It was observed that the increase of physical length of the waveguide is accompanied with the decrease of the electrical length. This unusual behavior is consequence of the fact that phase of the backward wave leads along the waveguide.
