Sažetak
The primary aim of this article is to deal with the question of how the understanding of the relationship between national identity and religion in Croatia can better inform the evangelical mission in Croatia. The paper deals with the complexity of forming a national identity by analyzing upon the basic theories of nationalism. Conclusions are than analyzed by giving example from Croatian context, particularly period in the early 1990s, when the transition from Yugoslav socialism to democracy took place. One of the issues here is: how did religious representatives react to the dominant political paradigm of formation of national identity in that period? The theological locus of the work is the biblical term "the image of God". The term points to the universal dimension of human identity and thus helps us in understanding its particular dimension. The harmony between universal and particular in human identity is broken by the fall of humanity in sin. The process of renewal was made possible by the cross of Christ. Expecting God's complete transformation, the Church is called to be God’s agent of reconciliation in this world.
