Sažetak
The EFPA Board of Assessment conducted in some European countries the third survey in 2020 on psychologists’ views on the use of psychodiagnostic instruments which involved Italy and Croatia. Aim: From the reported information, Croatia and Italy have different backgrounds and partly different history on the development and situation of psychology. For this reason, the authors of this presentation thought that it would be interesting to compare attitudes toward tests and testing in such different countries. • Methods: Croatia has six universities which offer psychology degrees in the Republic of Croatia, and about 340 to 360 students are enrolled annually. • Italy has two levels of “psychologists”: junior (bachelor degree and state exam) and “Psychologists” Most Italian psychologists are “second level psychologists”. Their actual number is 120.601. • Results: In both countries, psychologists affirmed the regular use of tests, significantly more often in Croatia than in Italy, but the standard deviation was higher than for other questions above all in Italy. There was a medium agreement in both countries about the need for improvement of tests and testing practice. However, there was a very high agreement in both countries about the fact that (a) if they are used correctly, they are of great help to the psychologist and (b) they constitute an excellent source of information if they are combined and complemented with other psychological data. • Both countries psychologists also very much agree that standards [e.g., those of EFPA, or of the American Psychological Association (APA)] defining the minimum technical qualities of a test should be enforceable. There was a medium agreement in both countries about the issue that ITC, EFPA or any other international organization should establish a global system to accredit the certification of test users. • Conclusions Although the two countries under study have different backgrounds, these preliminary results showed that there were many similarities among the respondents and above all the underlining importance to “protect” tests and testing from abuse.
