Sažetak
Gutenberg-Richter relationship connects number of earthquakes N with their minimum magnitude M: logN = a-bM. Physically, parameter b can be interpreted as indicator of stress, where large (small) b- values indicate low (high) stress. A change in b prior to the earthquake that occurred on 22 March 2020 in Zagreb area and during the corresponding sequence is presented. Earthquake parameters from ISC and EMSC are combined to form a catalogue with events in the period 2011-2020 and within 50 km radius from the Zagreb 2020 earthquake epicenter. After determining completeness magnitude Mc=1.5, parameter b is calculated from Gutenberg-Richter relationship using maximum likelihood method. Its temporal change is examined using sliding windows containing 50 events. There is a drop in b-value after the main earthquake, indicating an increase in stress in the researched area.
