Sažetak
The war in Croatia in 1991 brought two well-known sieges of cities - Vukovar and Dubrovnik. In this paper, we pay attention to the siege of Vukovar. How the Croatian media covered the events around Vukovar in September 1991. Until the end of September, the ring around the city was not completely closed, which allowed journalists to enter and leave the city under siege. Some reports were very informative and emotional, while at the same time in September there was still hope that the defense of Vukovar would withstand the attack. We analyze how journalistic reports from the besieged city influenced the creation of a special emotional significance of Vukovar in the Croatian public and how this was reflected on the actors on the ground and political decision- makers.
