Sažetak
In this paper advantages and drawbacks of the child language corpora will be briefly discussed. The experiences from building the Croatian language corpus will be accounted. The two basic methodologies of child language acquisition research will be compared: child language corpus will be compared with designing language experiments and various elicitation tasks. The methodologies will be compared with respect to the kind of data being collected, with respect to the suitability for various theories of language acquisition and with suitability for reconstruction of child "grammars". Attention will be paid to the question of "negative evidence". This issue will be briefly discussed in two aspects: "theoretical" - meaning the nature of the negative evidence and its impact on the methodological questions of language acquisition research and "empirical" - meaning examining the actual child - parent interaction and a kind of linguistic information that children are provided with by their parents. The second important issue is the question of capturing the features of the child language that are not very frequent and some experiences in dealing with the Croatian corpus will be discussed.
