Sažetak
The aim of this study was to evaluate the diversity of local garlic ecotypes grown in Istria in relation to the content of allicin and particular volatile organosulfur compounds. The samples were analysed by liquid and gas cromatography, respectively, and compared to commercial garlic cultivars Ail de Piolenc and Music. Wide ranges of the content of allicin and specific volatiles were found in the analysed accessions. The first two principal components explained 60.95% of total variance and showed differences between Istrian ecotypes as well as between the ecotypes and the commercial cultivars. The variability found represents an important source of traits usable for breeding programs.
