Sažetak
According to the narrative theories of personal identity, persons are essentially beings who create self-narratives. Their concern for their future survival is explainable in terms of their concern for continuing their self-narratives. What it means for a future action or experience to be mine is that it can be incorporated into my self-told story. Such a view have proved highly relevant for some current bioethical debates. In my talk, I will discuss and evaluate the view according to which the narrative approach to personal identity supports the so- called higher brain criterion of death, which states that death should be defined in terms of the irreversible cessation of the capacity for consciousness.
