Sažetak
Previous research found that women’s sports are underrepresented in routine media coverage, but receive more equitable coverage during international competition (e.g., the Olympics) and on some social media platforms (Bruce, 2016). In the Central and Southeastern European region, sports media primarily cover men’s football and feature women only when they compete in sports associated with national pride and win medals (e.g., Jakubowska & Ličen, 2019). More research is needed on this region on the role of media and social media specifically in relation to the social aspect of sport. This study examines gender representations on broadcasters’ sports-focused Facebook pages in Hungary (M4 Sport), Croatia (HRT Sport) and Slovenia (RTV SLO Šport). The study employs a quantitative content analysis of a “routine” two-week period without Olympic competition and a one two-week period aligned with the dates of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
