Sažetak
There is increasing use of digital images in zoological and ecological studies, as well as for digitization of museum collections. High-quality images have multiple advantages: they can be handled over and over again without disturbing the individual, they can be “ready-to-use” everywhere at any time, and they can provide additional information that would otherwise be difficult to access. Thanks to their relative small size, many species of amphibians and reptiles are particularly suitable to record high-quality images ; however, potential uses are still poorly explored. Here we present high-quality pictures of Podarcis lizards obtained using a portable photographic studio. We show how these digital images can be reliably used in zoological and evolutionary studies and the potential hypotheses that can be tested. We also evaluate the reliability of a post-hoc method to estimate the SVL from images with dorsal view.
