Sažetak
The utilization of geothermal energy depends on the physical properties of the geothermal source and the purpose for which it is intended. Low- temperature sources are most often used for space heating, in agriculture and for medical treatments, while medium-temperature and high- temperature sources are mostly used for electricity generation. The temperature of geothermal water in some springs can reach over 150°C, so the theoretical utilization factor of the Carnot process can be up to 30%. The efficiency of real processes is even lower, so these plants are often economically viable only at an incentive price, despite the fact that geothermal energy is a renewable source and has no fuel costs. One way to harness geothermal energy for energy purposes is to apply the Organic Rankine cycle (ORC).
