Sažetak
While educational systems place increasing emphasis on the inclusion of children with neurodevelopmental difficulties in mainstream classrooms, teachers often lack sufficient and appropriate support to ensure successful integration. In many contexts, occupational therapists (OTs) serve an important role in ensuring pupils effectively participate in everyday occupations and supporting teachers in meeting pupils’ needs. In Croatia, OTs are not currently employed in the educational system. The aim of this study was to examine the frequency with which Croatian teachers encountered behaviours exhibited by children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and their experiences in coping with these difficulties. Using a snowball sampling method, 51 teachers were recruited and completed an online questionnaire. While data collection and analysis are still in progress, preliminary results indicate that the most frequently observed behaviours were related to difficulties with attention, social-emotional competence, task completion and handwriting. For many teachers, these behaviours were a source of stress and frustration and were perceived to interfere with the achievement of teaching goals. Handwriting, social-emotional regulation and assistive/adaptive devices were most frequently identified as areas where further support was needed, suggesting that occupational therapists might play an important role in assisting Croatian teachers in addressing pupils’ developmental needs.
