Sažetak
Social and political turmoil typically reflects on the language situation, education and other aspects of the public sector, particularly when it comes to a political ideology that controls every branch of the public sector, as was the case with communism in the former country of Yugoslavia. The paper provides a review of the culmination of the aforementioned turmoil related to the turbulent events with regards to the status of Croatian language from late 60’s to early 70’s, and analyses its effect on music terminology. The corpus-based research includes the representation of musical terms in: Nastavni plan i program (Curriculum) from 1972, general dictionaries Rječnik hrvatskoga ili srpskoga jezika (Dictionary of the Croatian or Serbian Language) (Vol. I A-F, Vol. II G-K), JAZU (The Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts), (authors: Ljudevit Jonke, Mate Hraste, Stjepan Musulin, Pavle Rogić, Slavko Pavešić, Božidar Finka), (1967) and in Veliki rječnik stranih riječi, izraza i kratica (Large Dictionary of Foreign Words, Expressions and Abbreviations, 1966 and 1974) written by Bratoljub Klaić. The research also focuses on the representation of musical terms in heretofore unknown Muzički rječnik (Musical Dictionary, 1958) written by Dinko Chudoba. The paper implements both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
