Sažetak
In the period from 10th to 16th October 2015 two cyclones from the central Mediterranean brought extreme amount of precipitation in certain parts of Croatia causing great damage. Croatian media and civil protection agency reported about flood and flash flood events in which approximately 100 landslides happened, infrastructure was flooded, roads and vents were damaged but fortunately there were no human losses. The most affected area was at the surroundings of town Karlovac in the mainland, but at the same time large parts of the coastal area experienced catastrophic flash floods. Daily amounts of rainfall at some locations exceeded average monthly precipitation amounts. During this period Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) for the first time issued warnings for public that included both meteorological and hydrological warnings. Warnings for National Protection and Rescue Directorate (NPRD) also included flood possibilities and water levels for most rivers in Karlovac surroundings. Hydro warnings were based on the results of Mike11—hydrological and hydrodynamic model by which post-event assessment indicated a frequency of positive detection of 93.1 %, 6.9 % of false alarms and 0 % probability of miss, European Flood Awareness System (EFAS) and Southeast Europe Flash Flood Guidance System (SEEFFGS) by which post-event assessment indicated a frequency of positive detection of 90 %, 10 % of false alarms and 0 % probability of miss. The paper will present the process of issuing combined meteo and hydro warnings and the experiences of the operational forecasters and hydrologists.
