Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of medical tourism as a modern specific form of tourist offer and how development of its offer can bring numerous advantages for development of a tourist destination and achieving competitive positioning. Methodology used in this paper is based on the presenting of the important papers in medical tourism, as well as the examples of good practice. For the analysis of the state of Croatian medical tourism, selected findings published in the pilot research study TOMAS Health Tourism 2018 attitudes and consumption of service users of health tourism in Croatia were used. Findings in the paper indicate that Croatian medical tourism is currently in a relatively satisfactory position, but in order to achieve further competitive position, further activities need to be undertaken. The contribution of this paper manifests in emphasizing the relevance of medical tourism in world tourism flows, and in Republic of Croatia, and its contribution to the economic development of a destination and achievement of competitiveness on the tourist market.
