Sažetak
The genus Alyssum L. belongs to the family Brassicaceae and comprises over 200 species, most of them growing in S. W. Asia, the E. Mediterranean and S. Europe. Mountain madwort, A. montanum L. is taxonomically difficult aggregate which is represented in Croatia by the following subspecies: A. montanum L. subsp. gmelinii (Jord.) Em. Schmid, A. montanum L. subsp. montanum, A. montanum L. subsp. pagense (Baumgartner) Hayek and A. montanum L. subsp. pluscanescens (Raim. ex Baumgartner) Trpin. Among these, the two latter are narrowly endemic. Thin-layer chromatographic analysis of amino acids of the leaves, flowers and fruits of four Croatian subspecies of mountain madwort showed the presence of 11 amino acids: leucine, phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan, tyrosine, proline, alanine, threonine, serine, lysine and histidine. Comparing the intensity of coloration of separated amino acids a hypothesis is that the quantities are different among all taxa, with the most amount in A. montanum subsp. pagense. In addition, the chromatographic analysis indicated the differences in quantities among leaves, flowers and fruits within the same subspecies.
