Sažetak
The term “health information technology” (health IT) refers to the electronic systems that store, share, analyze and protect health information collected from diverse sources. Appropriate management of available healthcare data allows health systems to create holistic views of patients, personalize treatments, improve communication, and enhance health outcomes. Health IT includes much more than facilitated communication or storing and sharing electronic and personal health records. It includes also electronic prescribing, knowledge shearing, patient support tools, mobile health technology together with decision making algorithms. Health IT is vitally important in the digital age. The privacy, security and ethics of health information are a top priority for both patient and health care providers. Unfortunately, the healthcare industry is sometimes a prime target for cybercriminals. Stolen protected health information, or blackmailing via different kind of cryptolockers, is precious good on the black market. While healthcare industry relies more and more on IT technology, cyber-attacks threatening grow daily. This article argues health IT issues from two perspectives. The first perspective is a point of view of physician aiming to improve the quality of care using fast and accurate health IT. The second perspective is standpoint of cybersecurity specialist aiming to protect valuable data form cybercriminals, continually developing new strategies and best practices to ensure the safety of sensitive health data. Finally, article analyzes most used cyberattacks gives practical recommendation to health IT. In short, to improve cybersecurity in health IT, organizations need to collaborate closely with IT professionals who can not only manage data, but also protect them taking care about legal framework.
