Sažetak
With the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it become applicable to churches and religious communities located in the European Union. As one of them, this paper puts in focus the Catholic Church in the European Union and, as its separate part, the Catholic Church in the Republic of Croatia. Authors analyze articles of the GDPR and different multi-layered activities of the Catholic Church in various forms of public life, as well as the private religious life of its subordinates, both in the European Union and the Republic of Croatia. They are offering the views on (non)obligation of GDPR to juridical persons of the Catholic Church in specific circumstances. Finally, they propose certain solutions in the evaluation of the Church books and parish registers. Authors explain that the Catholic Church remains protector of Divine Law and Tradition in the times of identity crisis when there are permanent requests to intervene into the Church records, which would then be attack on free exercise of religion.
