Sažetak
The aim of this research is to define the specific types of landscapes, describe their qualities and perform evaluation based on selected indicators, within the far eastern part of Croatia that is selected as a case study area. In the administrative sense, it is the area of OsijekBaranja and Vukovar-Srijem counties, while in the landscape division of Croatia, it is an area that belongs to the lowland Pannonian area, and which the authors will divide into several types, such as rural, urban, endangered, degraded, war-damaged and natural-protected landscapes (for example watercourse of the Danube and Drava river and the wetland landscape Kopački rit). The analysis will be made based on physical-geographical data such as climate, soil types, soil cover, land use, altitude and geomorphology. Socio-geographical data will refer to typology and morphology of settlements, type of agricultural areas (plantations, vineyards, etc.), abandoned arable land, infrastructure systems (roads, gas pipelines, expansion of construction areas), size and type of settlements as well as data on dominant economic activities affecting the area. Selected examples of the landscape will be used to assess the value and then to analyze the vulnerability of the landscape with special emphasis on those processes that affect the transformation of the landscape, such as the planned construction of infrastructure, roads, settlements and tourist buildings. Finally, it will be determined to what extent the landscape evaluation of the researched area can impact the social and economic planning as a part of spatial planning of the researched counties, ie. sustainable development as a whole.
