Sažetak
Introduction: Development of digital technology, all phases of work in dental medicine become digitized, including the process of determining tooth color. In recent years, dental photography has been used as a method of digital procedure for determining tooth color. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the method of determining tooth color based on a dental photography taken with a smartphone. Materials and methods: 45 subjects participated in the study. CIE L*a*b* values on the central third of the upper right central incisors were measured with a Vita Easy Shade V spectrophotometer and on RAW calibrated and uncalibrated photos taken with a Samsung S9+ smartphone using a Smile Lite MDP device with a polarizer and hybrid filter installed. The color of the teeth in the photos was measured in the computer program Adobe Lightroom 6. The obtained results were compared. Results: All CIE L*a*b* values on calibrated RAW photographs showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) compared to the spectrophotometer. CIE L*a*b* values on uncalibrated RAW photographs taken with a hybrid filter had the most matches, where there was no statistically significant difference between L* and a* values compared to the spectrophotometer (p>0.05). In uncalibrated RAW photographs taken with a polarizing filter, the b* values matched compared to the spectrophotometer (p>0.05), while the difference between the L* and a* values was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: The polarize and hybrid filter on the Smile Lite MDP device could be a useful tool for taking dental photos. With the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that digital photographs obtained by a smartphone under the conditions used in this study cannot be used to determine tooth color.
