Sažetak
Introduction: According to the European Union Council Directive 2011/84/EU professional at- home tooth whitening using 16% or 10% carbamide peroxide is highly recommended dental procedure in esthetic dentistry. This study was designed to assess the efficacy of these two at-home whitening agents in terms of color change of the natural teeth. Materials and methods: A total of 40 patients were divided into two groups (n=20) according to the whitening agent used: 16% and 10% carbamide peroxide. The patients used the whitening agents in a tray overnight for 14 days. Mean CIE L*a*b* values were recorded using spectrophotometer before and immediately after the treatment and color differences were calculated. Results: The results revealed overall color change of professional at-home whitening technique for both 16% and 10% carbamide peroxide agents was ΔEab = 4.6 and 2.4, respectively (P < 0.05). A statistically significant effect for the mean CIE L*a*b* values was discovered within the time measured, with mean L* values increasing and mean a* and b* values decreasing significantly in both concentrations observed (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, both professional at-home whitening agents were effective, but the concentration of it did have an influence on whitening efficacy.
