Sažetak
Intensive depopulation process of the rural areas, started in the 2nd half of the 20th century, strongly affected Adriatic coastal islands and especially smaller and remote ones. The only force that is going against this depopulation current is mass tourism activities that exploit ecological and social island resources, mostly in unsustainable manner. In this unsustainable but life preserving context, questions arise: can we use our island space resource in a sustainable manner but to support economical island development? Can new trends like remote and co-working, residents concepts and makers movement help in this process? This presentation tries to answer this questions, on the Biševo island case study. Theoretical research on island sustainability performed at the Faculty of Architecture here is combined with practical work and experience on the Island, organized by FabLab Zagreb Association. This process, started on Island Biševo, could announce a sustainable development island model that could be extrapolated for numerous other Adriatic islands.
