Sažetak
Given the status of English as a global language of science and particularly academic publishing, gaining competence in academic English language skills has been increasingly important. The present paper outlines the initial stage of an extensive corpus-based study aimed to explore the use of selected metadiscoursal features by Croatian and Serbian master's students in the writing of their master's theses and to compare their use to L1 English students in the same academic genre. More specifically, it presents the methodological framework adopted in the study, with the specific focus placed on establishing the criteria for the compilation of the comparable students' corpora. The guidelines used in designing the current methodological framework may be used in congruent contrastive interlanguage analysis of academic writing.
