Sažetak
This chapter summarizes the main steps in the process of the protection of world cultural (and natural) heritage. Inclusion on the World Heritage List is explained thoroughly, as well as the selection criteria that need to be met. Besides clarifying the process of the protection of world heritage, the focus here is on the process of the heritage management system. The „lowest common denominators“ that are common to all heritage management systems will be explained. In the last part of the chapter, focus is on the heritage governance system. The main differences between two of the most common governance systems have been pointed out. Contemporary models of governance and management emphasize changes in perspectives from planning to the process approach – the one that challenges existing assumptions and prevent inertia
