Sažetak
Imperial-Royal Austrian exhibition in London 1906: Representing Dalmatia Organizations The Imperial Exhibition held from June to October 1906 is another in a series of complex presentations of various national selections that are regularly organized during the 19th and early 20th century in London. In the area of Earl's Court, industrial goods, ethnographic heritage, natural potentials and artistic production of the Austrian part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy had to present economic prosperity and picturesque varieties of kingdom. At that time, the Dalmatian region was under the direct administration of Vienna, and the organization of the exhibition took place under the authority of the ministries of Vienna. The composition of the organizing committee clearly illustrates the ultimate goal of the exhibition - strengthening trade and presenting the development and economic potential of this part of the Monarchy. Dalmatia was presented in binary codes, common for large exhibitions - rare industrial products were decorated with ethnographic material that should have evoked the spirit of the Orient, agricultural products and natural beauties emphasized the tourist potential of the Mediterranean region. An important segment of the exhibition was the presentation of the art production presented in Fine Art Section. Official exhibition catalogue reveals that the Ministry of Culture and Education also has given a powerful support to exhibition, and it was the first representation of art from “Austrian” states to British public, and publication Fine Arts leads us through details of this presentation where we can find more names of Croatian artists, as Antonia Krasnik. Ten sections didn't include works of Dalmatian artist, who exhibited their works in the Dalmatian Pavilion in Elysia and in the „Trip through Austria” section. This section was oriented to motivate tourist visits to „Austrian“ territory illustrated by photographies of picturesque landscapes from „...mighty glacis of Tyrol and the sub-tropical coasts of Dalmatia. “ Paintings of Croatian artists had task to „…give more life to the whole and warm up southern landscapes with suitable colouring “ together with multicolour costumes arranged in showcases to suggest unity and harmony of different nations under Habsburg Crown. Organising Dalmatian Section was followed by many obstacles, but final results and goals set before Austrian authorities, Dalmatian exhibiters and British audience can be traced through local press and artist’s biographies. Commercial interests overshadowed animosities that culminated in Great War very soon, but Dalmatian artist and producers used this opportunity for self-presentation and economic development.
