Sažetak
X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is nowadays the comprehensive non-destructive technique for inspection of composite materials. Further, high resolution 3D images of the underlying microstructure can be used for ex- or in-situ monitoring of damage evolution over time as a function of loading. The kinematics in the bulk of the composite material, introduced by applied loading, in the bulk of the composite material can be measured via Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) technique. The first difficulty when dealing with 3D images is that the actual microstructure of the material can hardly be modified in the bulk in order to enhance contrast. Second, the characterization of materials can be limited by side effects (i.e. artifacts) that arise in the reconstruction procedure. These image imperfections are introduced by numerous sources and they can be recognized as gray level variations or specific curves. Finally, the acquisition noise, reconstruction artifacts, and the correlation procedure itself cannot find perfect match between the reference and deformed image. Hence, it is necessary to the conduct an a priori analysis of the measurement protocol in order to evaluate the corresponding uncertainty.
