Sažetak
Seawater has several curative properties, with prevention and treatment of upper respiratory tract disorders being the most prominent one. Two ion chromatography (IC) methods, one for the analysis of inorganic anions (chloride, bromide, sulfate) and the other for analysis of cations (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) were developed for routine analysis of seawater and products with seawater in quality control laboratory. In 2004, methods for assay of anions and cations were developed and validated on Dionex DX600 system. For anion separation Dionex IonPack AG12A column and corresponding guard column were used, while for cation separation Dionex IonPack CG12A column and corresponding guard column were used. Also, ATLAS suppressor columns, working in recycle mode, were used for electrolytic suppression. Five years ago, Dionex released ICS-5000, new generation of ion chromatographic systems, claiming to be more sensitive, with better resolution and ease-of- use. Using this new technologies, new methods were developed on Dionex IonPack AS14A column and corresponding guard column for anion analysis, and on Dionex IonPack CS16 column and corresponding guard column for cation analysis. For electrolytic suppresion, SRS 300 self- regenerating suppressors were used. Specific chromatographic parameters were selected in order to shorten the time required for analysis, while still maintaining baseline separation of all components of interest. New methods were validated and proved to have superior performace characteristic in comparison to methods developed on DX600 system: linearity (r≥0.99), accuracy (recovery 90-110%) and repeatability (RSD≤4.0%). In addition, simplicity and ruggedness of new methods were proven in 2015, by transfering methods from quality laboratory to research laboratory that uses different equipment (Dionex ICS-5000+ and ERS 500 suppressors). During more than ten years of our experience, our methodology changed, following technological advancements in IC and resulting in more sensitive, accurate and reproducible analysis. In conclusion, new ion chromatography methods that were developed and validated can be successfully used in pharmaceutical industry for routine analysis of seawater and OTC products with seawater.
