Sažetak
Family farms (hrv. obiteljska poljoprivredna gospodarstva) form a significant part of farmers in Croatia. The official statistics show that from 170, 662 farms, 162, 966 are family farms.1 In other words, 95% of farms in Croatia are held as family farms, which is in accordance with the trend at the European Union level.2 Regardless of their number, it was not until 2018 that Family Farms Act (hereinafter FFA) was introduced with the goal to regulate the status of family farms.3 Family farms are seriously undermined as a topic of legal research. The authors will compare basic characteristics and challenges of the agricultural sector at the EU level with the Croatian agriculture. The special focus will be placed on the comparison between the legal framework of family farms and crafts in Croatia. The goal is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the family farms as a special legal vehicle designed for entrepreneurs who perform agricultural activities, and to contribute to legal comprehension of the agricultural sector on both the EU and Croatian levels.
