Sažetak
Post-consumer poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) products, especially post used PET bottles, represent hazard to the environment because of their high consumption, which results in its considerable volume fraction in plastic waste stream. Land-filling of PET is not recommended because PET has high resistance to the atmosphere and poor bio- and photodegradability. Many attempts are currently directed toward recycling of post-used PET bottles with the aim of environmental protection and economic benefits. Collected PET bottles include some small fraction of impurities: the most common are paper, glue and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Present HDPE origin from caps for bottles and it can cause defects in recycled PET. For good physical and mechanical properties absence of defects in material is crucial. In this work physical and mechanical properties of recycled PET containing some ammount of HDPE impurities were studied. PET bottles and HDPE waste were collected, washed and mixed in extruder in different ratios. Samples for mechanical measurements were prepared according to ASTM D 256-93. The mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength) and rheological properties (MFR) were determinate and compared with virgin PET. The results are discussed in terms of potential reuse of obtained material.
