Sažetak
Local strength assessment of the tanker forecastle deck structure subjected to towing loads has been performed by means of the general finite element (FE) tool. For this purpose, 3D FE model has been generated with appropriate mesh refinements in the vicinity of Smit (towing/mooring) brackets. Corrosion effect has been taken into account by the thickness reduction of structural members according to the available thickness measurements and recommendations of the Classification Society (where measurement data were not available). Also, the model is loaded by the towing force provided by the relevant Classification Society. In addition, strength of the reinforcement welds has been checked by the simple analytical formulae for shear stress calculation. The calculated stresses and displacements are significantly below the prescribed limits, implying that the deck structure with additional reinforcements and Smit brackets should operate safely during the towing process.
