Sažetak
The baby boomer generation has begun to reach retirement age. What this highly educated and racially diverse cohort does in its retirement years has implications for the boomers, their communities and society. Productive aging and engagement have been suggested as conceptual frameworks to guide the development and study of programs for older adults. However, there are limitations to the application of the guiding principles and assumptions of these concepts to all members of the baby boomer population. This raises questions as to how social workers might employ the concepts of productive aging and engagement without sacrificing social work’s value of social justice. A potential solution is for social work scholars to use feminist standpoint theory and the research of marginalized groups to supplement the productive aging and engagement framework.
