Sažetak
In Croatia and in England, teachers are often perceived as mediators or technicians whotransmit bodies of knowledge determined by out of school experts. Action researchenables the teachers to initiate changes aiming at the improvement of educationalpractices as well as personal emancipation. Emancipation implies liberation frominvisible limitations caused by prejudices, compulsion and prevailing ideologies. In orderto initiate changes in their classrooms, teachers need to be reflective practitioners andthey need on-going support and challenge from action research mentors to do so.In our paper we will explore how action research mentoring is supporting professionaldevelopment of teachers in two countries, England and Croatia.
