Sažetak
Problems in introductory programming courses have been present for years. Students struggle to grasp abstract programming concepts and understand programming principles which leaves them in rather anxious state. Similar set of problems is also present in another fundamental course of any computer science study and that is the introduction to data structures and algorithms. This course deals with even more complex elements and more sophisticated algorithms that require even more effort from students in order to understand them. One of the biggest problems of introductory data structures and algorithms courses is the question about the proper way of presenting students with various data structures and algorithms that would enable them to understand the dynamic behavior of these constructs. Various efforts have been made in order to create educational environments that would make learning and teaching of these courses easier but there has not yet been any generally applicable solution. In this article the set of problems and efforts made to solve problems regarding introductory data structures and algorithms courses are presented and discussed. The research about the attitude of students towards these courses and the most common problems as well as the suggestions for their solution are also given and elaborated.
