FIRE BLIGHT IS NOT PRESENT IN CROATIA-Erwinia amylovora has spread in neighboring countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia) so there was a real possibility of it spreading in Croatia. Quarantine measures have been taken in Croatia. During the vegetation in 1991, pear and apple orchards in the vicinity were inspected several times: 1. Poreč (Manšerbo orchard) ; 2 Vrsar ; 3 Umag (Ferna and Špinel orchards) ; 4. Opuzena ; 5. Jastrebarskog ; 6. Osijek ; 7. Vukovar ; 8. Vinkovci (Borinci). Small orchards and individual trees in the vicinity of Dubrovnik, Split, Slavonski Brod, Bjelovar Ivanić Grad and Karlovac were examined. In addition to fruit species, special attention was paid to the examination of sensitive ornamental plants such as Crataegus, Cotoneaster, Pyracanta, Spirea, etc. Samples on which symptoms resembling E. amylovor were observed were analyzed at the Department of Phytopathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagreb. No infection with E. amyliovor was confirmed in any of the samples.
