Sažetak
The paper analyzes specific opportunities to challenge racist attitudes within sport. This included suppressing racism and violence within and outside stadiums, promoting social dialogue, developing a social responsibility strategy aimed at targeted institutions, changing legislation and promoting awareness about the effects of discrimination, especially in sports associations which are poorly equipped to include children with an ethnic minority background. Another issue of concern is whether a European approach to gender equality (comparing with approach against racism in sport) is sufficient to promote better gender equality in sport, and how to overcome inequalities and stereotypes in sport? The paper emphasizes a lack of the comprehensive policy on implementation of racial and gender equality concepts and standards. The paper also offers recommendations how to improve the existing policy and legal framework in order to suppress racial and gender discrimination in sport by focusing on preventing and combating racist incidents, combating the under-representation of women and minorities and promoting inclusiveness and fostering actions by equality bodies.
