Sažetak
Activated sludge, made up of bacteria, protozoans and microscopic metazoans associated within the suspended/sedimented organic matter, is widespread biological method in the wastewater treatment (WWT). The assessment of microfauna enable insight in the sludge quality based on sentinel organisms sensitive to response on alteration of physical, chemical and operational conditions. Results pointed out ciliates and rotifers were efficient in the removal of organic matter and bacterial indicating their significant role in effluent quality. Moreover, establishing a community of attached ciliates and rotifers that contribute the most in decreasing of suspended organic matters suggested efficient functioning of WWT plant. Synecological approach in the wastewater treatment could contribute in the comprehensive insight to efficient specific or general interaction among organic matter, bacteria and microfauna.
