Sažetak
Countries are developing a defence industry that enables the development of defence capabilities and the creation of a secure environment. National defence industrial capacities enable the equipping of the national armed forces with weapons and equipment from national production. At the same time, by achieving top quality, the national defence industry can compete in the international armament and military equipment market, and contribute to economic development, the development of new technologies, employment and increase of GDP. The strongest and most developed countries in defence industry work on new technologically advanced products. Other countries that have a small but extremely high-quality production in the field of military and defence technology and dual-use products by competing in the international market can gain recognition and establish a certain market position. The Croatian defence industry is a very important part in this area, given that producers from this industrial sector represent a very strong industrial base focused on the development of high-tech products with high added value. A key element and precondition for competition in the international market is that the national armed forces are users of the products of the national defence industry for the development of national defence capabilities. This paper allso analyzes the Croatian defence industry and its export capacities, as well as the application of national defence industry products in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia. The paper uses data and information from various foreign and domestic sources including scientists, the EU, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, the Defence Industry Competitiveness Cluster, SIPRI etc., with the aim of presenting the impact of the defense industry on the economy, employment and exports.
