Sažetak
The vault is one of four apparatuses in Women's Artistic Gymnastics. During the period from 2008 to 2016 general rules for competing on the vault, determined by the Code of Points, were: 1) in Preliminaries gymnasts perform one vault, which score counts toward the Team and/or All-Around Total Score ; 2) in the Preliminaries, with the aim of qualifying for the Vault Finals, gymnasts need to perform two different vaults ; 3) top eight Final Scores (achieved during Vault Qualifications in Preliminaries) qualify for the Vault Finals (maximum of two gymnasts per national team). Presented facts were the problem of the study and the aim was to determine characteristics and trends of vault scores at different phases of all major competitions held from 2008 to 2016. In the analyzed period, only at the competitions that were Individual All-Around Finals and Individual Event Finals a high percentage of Vault Qualifiers was determined (at the World Championships held in 2009 (81.03%) and at the World Championships held in 2013 (90.90%). In all other competitions only approximately 20% of all female gymnasts competed Vault Qualifications. Significant differences, between the only vault of All-Around Competitors and the first vault of Vault Qualifiers, have been determined in the Difficulty Score but have not been determined in Execution Score. Also, significant differences have not been determined between scores of the second vault Vault Qualifiers and scores of the only vault of All- Around Competitors. In Vault Finals, at all the analyzed competitions, numerically higher values of Difficulty Scores, Execution Scores and Total Scores of the first vault, compared to the scores of the second vault, have been determined. Introspection of Vault Finals identified performance of 8 different vaults from the group Handspring forward on, 4 different vaults from the group Tsukahara, 5 different vaults from the group Yurchenko and 7 different vaults from the group Round-off with ½ turn (180°) in 1st flight phase. In the Vault Finals, numerical differences have been determined between differently ranked gymnasts, but only some of them have been determined as significant. It was calculated that Execution Score approximately presents 60% of Total Score, and that quality of performance is the main determinant of the higher ranking of female Vault Finalists. Obtained results confirm the progress in the quality and complexity of the female vaults in observed period, especially in performance of two structurally different vaults of similar Difficulty Value. The results of this study should be guidelines in planning and programming of training sessions for female elite competitors who aspire towards the Vault Finals.
