Sažetak
Paper defines what the Western Balkans actually means for Europe or better what it means for the policy makers and the broader public in Europe. There are a few dimensions to explore. Firstly, what is the perception of the Balkans due to the necessary consent on further EU enlargement? Secondly, are the Western Balkans and its society and states ready for a big step further? Finally, what are the political consequences of EU (non-) enlargement to the Western Balkans, or cost-benefit analysis of different alternatives of the process in future? All of these issues are presented from both perspectives, of the EU member states and of the Western Balkan states.

The book is result of the conference organized within EU Consent project, which has taken place from 26th to 28th October 2006 in Budapest. Main approach of this book is based on elaboration of the transformation of the new member states within EU on one side, and on main impacts which Eastern Enlargement has had on the old member states on the other side. The book offers texts of twelve authors elaborating different subjects which have been sorted into three main categories: those dealing with EU 27 perspectives, those dealing with possible enlargement perspectives and consequences and those dealing with Hungarian perspectives in an East Central European context.
