Sažetak
Nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide-phosphate (NADPH-diaphorase)servs as an electron donor for nitric oxide (NO) synthase that converts L- arginine in nitric oxide and citrulin. Recently it has been found that nitric oxide may act as neurotransmitter. This study was undertaken to determine the activity oh NADPH-diaphorase in human dental pulpwith chronic pulpitis (histologically verified) and in health controls.Furtermore, the activity of alkaline and acid phosphatases was examined in the same sample. A total of 50 human dental pulps were collected. Healthy controls were obtained from premolars and third molars extracted due to orthodontic reasons. Enzyme-activityof human NADPH-diaphorase, alkaline and acid phosphatases was determined by method of Pearse et al. (1968). High NADPH activity and alkaline phosphatase were obtained in chronically inflamed pulps, while the activity of acid phosphatases was low. The activity of NADPH was stronger in the outer parts of pulp compared with central areas.
