Sažetak
The article analyses the deed of foundation of the Monastery of St. Mary in Zadar. The deed is entered in the monastery’s cartulary with other documents. Based on the structure of the cartulary, an attempt is made to discover which parts concern documents on the foundation of the monastery in 1066, as they are not entered in a series, but in different places. A comparison is made with foundation documents relating to other monasteries. It is noted that none has an exclusively diplomatic character or structure. They are written in a free, narrative form and their stylistic features are closer to the literary pre-historiographic genre classified as gesta abbatum/abbatisarum.
