Sažetak
The retrograde sealing ability of high-copper zinc-containing amalgam, composite resin and two glass-ionomer materials was evaluated in 40 extracted humanincisors. The apical part was resected using a 20° bevel.Apical preparations, 3 mm deep, were prepared with afissure bur in a slow-speed handpiece. The teeth weredivided into four groups, 10 samples each. The apicalpreparations in the first group were filled by amalgam, inthe second by adhesive and composite resin (Pertac), in thethird by Fuji IX glass-ionomer, and in the fourth group byPhotac- Fil glass-ionomer. The roots were stored in salinesolution at 37°C for 30 days and then covered by nail varnish except the cut surface. After that they were placedin 1% ink for 1 week at 37°C. After a clearing process (5%nitric acid, alcohol, and methyl salicylate) dye penetrationwas recorded. Mean dye leakage for amalgam was 1.09 (SD0.78), for composite resin 1.47 (SD 0.86), for Fuji IX 1.43(SD 0.88) and for Photac-Fil 1.45 (SD 1.12). There was nostatistically significant difference among the materials. Thismay be explained by corrosion and late expansion causedby interaction between zinc and water improving sealing ofamalgam. In contrast, the other materials might have beenaffected by exposure to humidity during setting.
